November Envelopes

Envelopes and lists are now available for the month of November. Please hand them in by the end of October. Should you wish to donate, these are gratefully received and go directly to Canon Tom for his upkeep.

Benches in St Fillan’s

The benches in St Fillan’s are being lovingly restored after the ravages of time and the recent cleaning regime prescribed during the pandemic. The cost of each bench being refurbished is around £340. Our sincere thanks to those who have already donated, it is very much appreciated.

Canon Tom’s Day Off

Canon Tom tries to take as much of a Friday off as possible after celebrating morning Mass. An emergency contact number will always be available on the answering machine. Thanks.

World Youth Day Lisbon 2023

From the 1st until the 6th of August 2023, the World Youth Day will take place in Lisbon, Portugal. The youth from Scotland will probably be travelling a little before that and coming back to Scotland a little afterwards. We invite all those between the ages of 16-35 to apply for a place before the end of October. The cost is high (probably in the region of £1,400-£1,500) but the parish will pay half of the cost up front and will help in fund raising efforts. Also, no one should be barred on the basis of cost, and if people are really keen, we shall find a way to make it happen. This can be a life-changing opportunity. Please see Canon Tom soon.

Registration of all children for First Holy Communion and Confirmation

All parents of children who would be due to celebrate their First Holy Communion or Confirmation are asked to register their child with Canon Tom in writing (email or on paper with a contact detail) before the end of October of this year.

PPC Meeting: there will be a meeting for members of the Parish Pastoral Council on Monday 28th November. This will be a very important meeting, and we ask all members to attend.

Celebrating 150 Years Plus

This year, we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the blessing of the present St Fillan’s Church. The parish is, of course, 223 years old and is one of the oldest established parishes in Scotland. We have a series of events to mark the occasion.

During November

Masses and services for all the deceased members of the parish and priests who served in St Fillan’s and St Margaret’s.

Sunday 4th December 11 am (Second Sunday of Advent)

Mass celebrated by priests from the Redemptorist Community followed by exposition and Benediction in the afternoon

Monday 5th December 6.30 pm

Service of Reconciliation led by priests from the Redemptorist Community.

Canon Tom would also like to add a few social events like something on or near St Andrew’s Day. If you would like to be involved, please see Canon Tom.

Please pray for

the repose of the souls of

John McManus, Tom Murphy, and all the faithful departed.
